The Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) is designed to make dental care more accessible and affordable for eligible Canadians. Whether you’re unsure if you qualify or want to understand what treatments are covered, this guide will help you navigate the process with confidence. At Tsawwassen Family Dental, we’re committed to helping patients make the most of their dental benefits while receiving high-quality, comfortable care.
We proudly support patients covered under the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP), helping you access essential dental treatments with ease and confidence.
Launched in December 2023, the Canadian Dental Care Plan provides essential dental care coverage to Canadian residents with adjusted family net income below $90,000 annually and without private dental insurance. The CDCP covers a wide range of dental services including preventive care (cleanings, exams, fluoride treatments), basic procedures (fillings, extractions), and some major treatments (crowns, dentures) based on clinical necessity. At our Delta clinic, we work directly with Health Canada to process your CDCP benefits, ensuring you receive the maximum coverage available for your dental care needs.
CDCP Renewals are open for the 2026-2027 benefit year from April 15 to June 1, 2026. Your current coverage is effective until June 30, 2026, but will end on that date if you do not renew in time.
As a CDCP member, you must renew your coverage every year to confirm you still meet the eligibility requirements.
If you do not renew by the deadline, your coverage ends on June 30, 2026. You can submit a new application later, but:
To renew your CDCP coverage, you must meet all four requirements:
This includes coverage through:
Note: This applies even if you decide not to take it, have to pay a premium, or do not use it.
Retirement Exception: You may be eligible if you’re retired and you opted out of your dental insurance through your pension plan before December 11, 2023, and cannot opt back in.
You and your spouse or common-law partner must have filed your tax returns in Canada for the previous year.
Your adjusted family net income is less than $90,000 and you are a Canadian resident for tax purposes.
If you have coverage through a provincial, territorial, or federal government social program, you could still qualify. Your coverage will be coordinated between the plans to avoid duplications or gaps.
You must attest that you do not have access to dental insurance. The CDCP verifies this by reviewing tax records (T4/T4A) submitted by employers or pension plan administrators.
You will need to confirm or update the following for each applicant:
